Description
Dog Breed: Chow Chow (medium coat). Mojo (A137227) is a 4-year-old chow who weighed nearly 50 lbs at intake! 12/27/25 This handsome guy is Mojo! Mojo was brought to the shelter due to no fault of his own. He has been very outgoing with the care staff and has shown that he may be housebroken. If you are unfamiliar with chows, we highly recommend researching the breed prior to adopting. Chows are known for being loyal and protective dogs. Mojo had double entropian surgery on his eyes, so he is sporting an interesting look. He also went out for a dental, courtesy of the amazing Shelter Fund, and had ten teeth extracted! He will need to go back to the vet to have his bloodwork rechecked in a couple weeks (Jan 9 - Jan 16). We do not know how Mojo feels about other animals. He arrived at the shelter with his sister Taz, but we still recommend slow and controlled introductions if you have other dogs. Please also use caution if planning to introduce him to cats or other small animals. We also do not know Mojo's experience with smaller humans. If you are interested in meeting Mister Mojo, please give us a call!

Overview:
The Chow Chow, an ancient breed originating from China, is easily recognized by its distinctive lion-like mane, deep-set eyes, and unique blue-black tongue. These medium-sized dogs boast a dense double coat, which can be either rough or smooth, in a variety of colors including red, black, blue, cinnamon, and cream. Known for their reserved and independent nature, Chows often display a cat-like aloofness, making them more suitable for experienced owners who appreciate a dignified companion rather than an overly effusive one. While generally calm, their protective instincts can make them wary of strangers, so early socialization is crucial. They are adaptable to apartment living due to their moderate exercise needs, but require regular grooming to maintain their coat. Potential owners should be aware of breed-specific health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, and certain eye conditions like entropion.
