Description
Dog Breed: Pekingese. Sugar is a devoted, gentle Pekingese who lives up to her sweet name. At 14 lbs and 9 years old, she's calm in the house, well-mannered, and happiest when she’s right by her person’s side. Once she bonds with you, she’s incredibly loyal and keeps a quiet, loving watch over her home. Sugar is fully house-trained and does great letting you know when she needs to go out. She doesn’t love being confined in a closed crate, but she happily chooses to sleep in her crate when it’s left open and does well overnight in a quiet laundry area. While she doesn’t love being left behind, she tolerates alone time reasonably well and would thrive most in a home where she can spend plenty of time with her human. Her favorite activity is going for walks, where she often leads the way and can easily handle a couple of miles. She's also done well on a tie-out in the yard. At home, she’s calm and relaxed. She'll sit up on her haunches and gaze at you with big, expressive eyes when she’s hoping for a treat. She loves belly rubs, ear scratches, and treats, but isn’t interested in toys. Sugar loves meeting other dogs and would love to be part of a pack, even though she acts a little tough at first. She does have a bit of a “watchdog” side and may bark to announce that she’s on duty, especially when she goes outside. She does not have experience with cats or with kids, so a proper introduction is recommended. If you’re looking for a buddy to walk by your side and curl up close, Sugar is ready to be your loyal shadow and best friend. Overview:
The Pekingese is a captivating toy breed with a rich history, originating in ancient China where they were revered companions of royalty. Known for their distinctive "lion's mane" and rolling gait, they possess a compact, sturdy body covered in a long, profuse double coat that requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Their most recognizable features include a flat face, large, dark eyes, and a short, broad muzzle. Temperamentally, Pekingese are brave, independent, and surprisingly dignified, often displaying an affectionate but not overly demonstrative loyalty to their owners. They adapt well to apartment living due to their small size and relatively low exercise needs, though they do enjoy short, supervised walks. While generally good with older, respectful children, their independent nature means they might not be the ideal choice for boisterous family environments. Health-wise, their brachycephalic (flat-faced) structure makes them prone to respiratory issues and heatstroke, so vigilance in warm weather is crucial. Overall, the Pekingese is a charming and unique companion for those seeking a devoted, somewhat regal lapdog.
