Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). MEET SAWYER!!! Sawyer is bonded to SASSY: .underdogaz/animals/#action_0=pet&animalID_0=21790653&petIndex_0=0. Sassy and Sawyer are bonded loving siblings who give each other comfort when sad and kiss every night before sleep. Sawyer is the mostly black pup and Sassy is brown and tan. Personality: Sassy wants to be the female leader in the pack so no other female dogs in the household is a must. While Sassy may not be fond of other alpha female dogs, she does get along with other dogs, including submissive and gentle female dogs or male dogs. When the foster mom’s dogs get into an argument, she just minds her own business and lets other dogs figure their problems out. Sawyer is a loving and protective brother that lets Sassy lead their daily lives. Unlike his sister’s adventurous mindset, he’s more cautious and skittish when it comes to surroundings. Gentle handling and training on confidence can help him thrive. People/Surroundings: Sassy and Sawyer do well with kids that are patient, gentle and understanding of how scared and skittish they could be to sudden movement or strangers. Sawyer could be scared by tall big men but he's very fond of women. It does not mean that he cannot get along with men but it does require patience and gentle introductions for him. Afterwards, he enjoys cuddling and petting from anyone that he knows he’s safe with. Activity: Sassy and Sawyer know how to use pee pads and learned how to potty outside. However, they still require a bit of training on territory marking due to insecurity. Sassy does suffer a mild separation anxiety but patience, training, love and Sawyer’s comfort can help her grow more independence. Sassy and Sawyer love their little walk and outdoor adventures but still require confidence training for car ride and walking/heeling. They both feel more secure being in a crate during car rides. Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
