Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees. Meet Sweet Miss Maggie! This happy-go-lucky young lady was found as a scared stray, but in a short time she has blossomed into a joyful, affectionate pup who's showing off her sweet side every day. She loves to run, play with other dogs, and soak up every ounce of fun life has to offer. With a clean bill of health, perfect leash manners, and a heart full of sunshine, Maggie is ready to be the perfect match for an active family. Whether it's hiking, jogging, chasing toys in the yard, or curling up for snuggles after a busy day, Maggie brings endless love, laughter, and adventure to her forever home. The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00 and that includes their vaccinations, spay or neuter, rabies and microchip. To start the process please visit our website and fill out the adoption application (.dfwrescueme) and from there the foster family can answer any questions and arrange a time to meet. Maggie is participating in the DFW Rescue Me guest dog program, so ongoing care and custody is provided by her foster, not by DFWRM.

Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
