Description
Dog Breed: Affenpinscher. Hi all I'm Ginger, a shy but sweet girl who is worth getting to know. I'm only 1 so i still have puppy energy although you may not see it at first because of my shy personality. Because of how shy I am it is recommended that I don't go to a home with small children because their quick movements may startle me. When I open up I love rubber toys and even started to play with some soft toys but there not my favorite. I really enjoyed playing with a smaller dog here at the shelter but I had to be reminded to be easy but a dog more my size would be just fine. I didn't like when the cat hit me during my cat testing and so I moved away but I didn't do anything naughty. Of course its always recommended to introduce new animals slow because the behavior I have shown in the shelter may be different in a home.Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at infoawlwarsaw if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

Breed overview
Affenpinscher
A.K.A.: Monkey Terrier, Affen, Affenpincher, Aaffenpinscher
Overview:
The Affenpinscher, often nicknamed the "Monkey Dog" due to its expressive, almost simian face, is a charming and spirited toy breed with German origins, dating back to the 17th century. Physically, they are small, sturdy dogs, typically weighing between 7-10 pounds, with a shaggy, wiry coat that comes in various colors, most commonly black. Their most striking feature is their distinctive facial hair, including prominent eyebrows and a beard, contributing to their impish look. Temperamentally, Affenpinschers are curious, playful, and fiercely loyal to their families, possessing a surprising amount of confidence and courage for their size. They generally adapt well to apartment living thanks to their small stature and moderate exercise needs, and can be good with older, respectful children, though their assertive nature means early socialization is key. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of breed-specific concerns such as patellar luxation and respiratory issues due to their brachycephalic (short-nosed) structure, particularly in warmer climates.
