Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Hi , my name is Apollo and I am looking for my forever home. The nice people here at the shelter want me to let you know that I need a very special person to adopt me. I am very nervous when I meet new friends and when I'm in a new place. I have been here for a bit now and have learned to really like the people here that I see everyday. I need someone who will take their time with me and give me time to settle in. I do not get along with the other male dogs here and like to bark at them alot. I would do best in a home with no other dogs , or a submissive female. I am pretty good at walking on the leash and keep my kennel pretty clean.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
