Description

Dog Breed: French Bulldog. Big eyes. Bigger heart. Zero concept of personal space. Built like a potato. Loves like a soulmate. 🥔💙 Meet Theodore, a young French Bulldog with a heart far bigger than his compact little body. Theodore is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and special boy who bonds deeply with his people and gives his whole heart once he feels safe. He's the kind of dog who runs up to greet you with tail wags and then immediately climbs into your lap, draping himself over you like a 30-lb weighted blanket and settling in for hours of cuddles. He loves pets, scratches, eye contact, and will happily stare into your soul while giving you a full-body "hug." His big brown eyes and constantly expressive ears make it nearly impossible not to fall in love. Before rescue, Theodore was severely starved and neglected, and he is still learning what true safety and consistency feel like. Because of this, he needs a lifetime commitment with someone who truly understands bulldogs — their quirks, their behavioral tendencies, and the potential medical issues that come with the breed. French Bulldogs are not beginner dogs, and Theodore's ideal home will be with a bulldog-savvy adopter who understands structure, management, and patience. Theodore does well with routine. He sleeps through the night in his crate and is very well behaved in it, has no separation anxiety, and knows basic cues like "sit" and going into his crate for treats or toys. He enjoys car rides but must be crated, harnessed, or held — otherwise he scrambles everywhere trying to see it all at once. He has made good progress with potty training. When leashed to his people or actively hanging out with them, he has no accidents. He has had a few accidents after meals when wandering freely, so continued supervision and consistency are important. With other dogs, Theodore is still learning. He has slowly begun awkwardly playing with his foster brother, and we're proud of how far he's come. He is not aggressive and is not one to try to get into it with other dogs, but he is very new to social play and had wounds from being attacked prior to rescue, which can make him avoidant at times. He often self-soothes by obsessing over toys, and because he is a bulldog, traits like overstimulation and potential resource guarding around other animals are always realistic possibilities and must be proactively managed. Theodore would do well as an only dog, or in a very dog-savvy home comfortable managing toys, space, and interactions. Theodore loves toys and play, but he can be a rough, enthusiastic player. Tug games have been stopped because in his excitement he has accidentally bitten hands while grabbing toys so living with young children isn't ideal. He has made big improvements taking treats more gently, but adopters should understand that he is still learning. He walks well on leash until he sees something that looks like a ball 😅 and plush toys last about five minutes — he will destroy them and attempt to eat squeakers or rubber pieces, so all toys must be supervised. ⚠️ Important Bulldog Safety Requirement: French Bulldogs are extremely prone to overheating and heat stroke. Theodore must live in a temperature-controlled home with reliable air conditioning and careful management. He cannot be allowed to overplay or overexert himself to dangerous levels, and his people must be attentive to his breathing, energy, and heat tolerance at all times. This is not optional and is part of responsible bulldog ownership. French Bulldogs also require solid pet insurance, as their medical needs can be significant and lifelong. Theodore is a deeply loving, resilient boy who deserves a home that understands him, commits to him, and gives him the safety and stability he's never truly had before. Overview:

The French Bulldog, affectionately known as a "Frenchie," is a charming and compact companion breed originating from England, later popularized in France during the 19th century. Known for their distinctive "bat ears" and sturdy, muscular build, they possess a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors and patterns. Despite their somewhat serious expression, Frenchies boast an incredibly affectionate and playful temperament, making them excellent companions for individuals and families alike. Their relatively low exercise requirements and adaptability make them particularly well-suited for apartment living. However, prospective owners should be aware of their susceptibility to certain health considerations, including breathing difficulties due to their brachycephalic (short-nosed) structure, as well as spinal issues and skin allergies. With proper care and attention, a French Bulldog can bring years of joy and loving companionship.
