All of our dogs are in foster homes and not in one single kennel location. Adoption events is the best way to meet several of our dogs at once. Bruce is a three year old Malinois on the larger side. He was pulled from a local shelter, where he was a frequent visitor. He had been picked up roaming the streets on numerous occasions when his owners would not keep him contained. Bruce is a friendly guy whose time on the streets has sharpened his survival skills, making him an expert garbage can tipper, and sleek counter surfer. He is not one to let a decent meal go to waste. He walks fairly well on leash, comes when he's called, and readily enjoys pets and affection. He is neutral with other dogs, and will play for a bit when invited. He enjoys car rides, hanging out with his person, and a good game of tug. Bruce is not a huge fan of the crate, and when in one for more than a couple hours, tries to break out. He enjoys being outside, and could be considered for a mostly outside home. He seems comfortable inside, but after an hour or so, he's ready to go out. Unknown how he is with cats, smaller dogs or other small critters. Level 2 Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
