Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Border Collie (medium coat). Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix male Welcome Maximus MMXXVI, more commonly known as “Max” from City of Tulare Animal Services. Max is a leggy, 31lb, 2 year old, male cattle dog mix. He found himself at the shelter (December 2025) after his person went to the hospital. Either they never made it out or just never circled back around for him. That said, it’s clear he knows how to navigate the inside of a home. He’s housebroken and knows some basic commands. Max is dog friendly, in fact he was the shelter’s tester dog for the last 2 months so if that says anything about his character. He’s also very people social. Max is a fun guy with a lot of charm and spirit. He’s toy motivated and would make a great sport dog. He’s cat-like in his movements and very light on his feet. When he’s not playing, he’s snuggling (very affectionate, aim to please boy). Max is microchipped, neutered, and UTD on vaccines. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
