Description

Dog Breed: Chihuahua (long coat). FOSTER NEEDED! Momma needs your help! This precious little senior Chihuahua is 9 years old; and she has tested heart worm positive. Momma needs a foster while she is undergoing heart worm treatment. We will need a foster for her for 3-6 months. This little sweetheart is well behaved, gentle, and is a cuddly little girl. She weighs 13 pounds so she is a small girl. We will provide everything you need--food, bedding, crate, and we will pay for the heart worm treatments. She would be fine with children. Momma is good with most dogs but if you have another dog, we would require you to bring your dog in for a meet & greet with Momma. If you think you can help Momma out, please call us between 11-4 at 334-358-2882. We really need a foster for Momma as soon as possible. Even if you can't foster--please share to help us find the perfect foster home for Momma. Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative.

Overview:

The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
