Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Petey earned his name from a look-alike TV character, but we think that he could also easily be called Valentine or Valentino, because of the heart-shape markings on his nose, AND because he is truly a lover boy! Humans are his thing, and we are happy to help him with that by showering him with love and attention. He adores older kids, and they feel very secure around him. He is smart, knowing sit, take it, and working on stay. He does have a hard time being patient when he is walking on leash, but we understand how hard it is for dogs to be patient when the world is waiting for them. Petey appears to be housetrained and is happy to sleep through the night. He travels beautifully in the car, and of course, wants to be your navigator. He came to us as a stray, showing up at a home the night before the ice storm rolled through, so we have no background on him whatsoever. He was very hungry when he was found, and is very excited about food. We have to remind him to be "easy!" when taking treats, and much prefer tossing them to him on the ground or in the air for him to catch. He will need meet and greet times with other dogs, but has done fine with some and has been worried about others. He is currently in a foster home. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
