Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky / Husky / Mixed (long coat). Sherry was spayed last week, and is recovering beautifully in a foster home. She was given up by her family, along with a house companion, a malamute named Zeus. They have been very dependent on one another, but we are seeing them become more independent with each day that passes in their foster home. Sherry is housetrained, fine with the children in her foster homeC. and enjoys playing in the fenced-in yard with her canine foster siblings. she has been tested for heartworm and tickborne diseases, and got a clean bill of health. Sherry and Zeus love one another, but we do not feel they will need to be placed in the same home. PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
