Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $300 (for bonded pair). Meet Coral, a beautiful one-year-old (estimated) Hound/Shepherd mix with a gentle soul and a heart that just needs a little time to bloom. Coral’s journey began back in November when she and her devoted canine companion, Marsh, were found as strays near Conesville. Though they were never claimed by an owner, they were lucky enough to be taken in by kind finders who cared for them deeply. While their finders loved them, they weren't able to keep them long-term because their resident dog didn't quite see eye-to-eye with the duo. Now, Coral is looking for a fresh start with a family that has room in their hearts for two. As a young Hound/Shepherd blend, Coral is a thoughtful girl who is still finding her footing in the world. While her buddy Marsh is more of the "social butterfly", Coral is a bit more cautious and is currently taking some extra time to decompress as she gets used to many new faces and a busy shelter environment. Because she and Marsh have been through so many transitions over the last several months, they have formed an inseparable bond; they have truly become each other’s security blanket. We are looking for a special home that will adopt them as a pair, as staying together provides the confidence and happiness Coral needs to truly shine. Currently, Coral is taking things slow as she adjusts to the sights and sounds of the shelter. She is a sensitive girl who appreciates a gentle, patient approach while she settles in, but her sweet nature is evident to everyone who meets her. She is already spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all her vaccinations. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
