Description
Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Sadie and her sister Sallie are the last of a litter of puppies that their human had taken in to rehome. The girls have been well-socialized and are very healthy and happy. They had been contained quite easily in a fenced area with a four-foot fence, but one of those ladies learned to climb up and over, and the chase was on! The girls are incredibly cute, just the right size, and we can't wait for them to find homes! Good with other dogs, and they arrived in the same vehicle as two cats from the same family, so we feel they are probably fine with felines, or at least familiar with them. To adopt either girl, we do start with an application from our website. We know they like being together at the shelter, but want to separate them for adoption, so each one can get one-on-one attention from a new family. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
