Description
Dog Breed: Cane Corso Mastiff (short coat). 3/19/26: BlueBelle has been in the care of a foster mom for three weeks, after being found as an emaciated stray a month ago. We think she is between three and four years old, and she was actively lactating when she was found. (We speculate she had recently given birth and lost the babies, based on our experiences over the past many years.) She is most definitely thriving in her foster home, where she has put on weight and is becoming sleek and shiny. She was treated to a bath at a local groomer, is eating like a horse, is housetrained and cratetrained, and is acting more like a dog and less like an invalid. We plan to schedule a spay for her in a couple weeks. If you are familiar with a Cane Corso, please consider adopting this gorgeous girl. She needs to go to a home where someone is knowledgeable about the needs of the breed.years BlueBelle is making great progress in her foster home, where she is resting up and gaining weight so that she can be spayed. She has a devoted foster mom who said she walks nicely on on lead and is beautifully housetrained. She has shown some partiality to being around women as opposed to men, but we will continue assessing her needs as we go. She was found severely emaciated and we are hoping for her to gain about 20 pounds so she can be spayed and adopted! Her personality is gently appreciative and loving, and grateful for everything she is given. She was found as a stray, gobbling food she had found on the side of the road. She is negative for heartworm and tick disease, and her only real issue is being underweight. PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
