Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). When an amazing dog shows up as a stray, and you really can't believe she is real, you pinch yourself, assess, and immediately make plans to get the dog out of the shelter before the stress hits her. That's what we did with gorgeous Zoey. Not everyone loves the same breeds, and that's good. There are plenty of dogs to go around, and thank goodness for foster families who happen to be there for another reason, and are willing to take in a new dog or cat. After following up on her microchip, we managed to secure an Owner Surrender so that Zoey could be placed immediately. She is the most well-rounded dog we have met recently and she is amazing! Here are the details from her foster mom: "If you’ve been looking for a well-rounded family dog, RUN, do not walk, RUN to get your app submitted TODAY. (Please because she’s so perfect we already discussed her future in our household.) Name: Zoey Breed: German Shepherd Age: 4 years Kids: Dogs: CATS: check this box as okay, , too! Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
