Dog Breed: Chihuahua. Silo is a handsome boy who’s already mastered some of the basics—he’s both potty trained and crate trained, making him a great foundation for the right home. While he may not be the life of the party right away, there’s a sweet and loyal companion underneath just waiting to shine. Silo can be selective with his dog friends and prefers slow, proper introductions to feel comfortable. We believe he may not have had much socialization earlier in life, but he’s currently working with a trainer to build his confidence and learn that the world isn’t such a scary place. New people and new environments can make Silo a bit nervous, so he’ll need a patient and understanding family willing to go at his pace. Due to this, a home with children would not be the best fit for Silo. He’ll thrive in a calmer environment where he can continue building trust and confidence. With continued guidance from a certified trainer and a commitment to helping him grow, Silo has so much potential to blossom into his best self. Despite his “spicy” moments, Silo has plenty of things that make his tail wag—he loves squeaky toys, tasty treats, and settling in with a good chew bone. With time, trust, and love, Silo will reward his forever family with a bond that’s truly special. The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
