Description
Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed. Meet Bindy, a soulful 4-to-5-year-old Red Heeler mix who is looking for a heart to call her own. At about 55 pounds, Bindy is the ultimate "velcro dog" whose favorite place in the world is right by your side. She is a master of the deep-pressure snuggle, often leaning her entire weight against her favorite people to show her affection. While she can be quite shy and nervous in new situations—especially when meeting men or hearing the roar of passing cars—her loyalty is worth the wait. Once Bindy warms up to you, she offers a level of devotion and quiet companionship that is truly special. In the home, Bindy is a dream companion who is both house-trained and perfectly crate-trained. She is a naturally quiet girl who doesn’t spend her day barking, though she does have a bit of a curious nose and might "counter surf" if delicious snacks are left unattended for too long. On the move, she is an absolute professional; she is off-leash trained with great recall and "leave it" commands, and she walks beautifully on a leash. While she is nervous about the initial climb into a car, she settles in perfectly once the journey begins. Bindy’s ideal day involves a mix of mental stimulation and serious relaxation. She has a medium energy level and is perfectly content with one or two 20-30 minute walks, though she would never turn down a quiet hike in the woods. She has successfully lived with cats and can coexist with other dogs, but she would likely be happiest as an only pet where she doesn't have to share her human's attention. She is looking for a patient, low-traffic home where she can build her confidence at her own pace and transform from a shy wallflower into the devoted shadow she was born to be. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $200. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
