Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Walter is a shy little guy, about 12 pounds and 5 1/2 months old as of mid March. Walter gets along with smaller dogs but needs slow introductions to large dogs and isn't fond of highly active larger dogs.. Walter and his brother Wiley were part of an unwanted litter and by the time we were alerted to them, 4 of the 6 puppies had been given away. The boys are adjusting nicely in their foster homes. They're incredibly sweet and playful. Walter can be fearful and needs time to adjust to a new environment. An experienced dog parent is needed to help Walter settle in to a new home. They've had their rabies vaccine, will be getting their last DAPP vaccine in the series of 3 on February 16th and are microchipped. They'll be scheduled for neuter under the rescue when age appropriate. A home with a fenced yard is preferred. . Interested in adopting me? To fill out an application visit 3 Hearts 4 Paws. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
