Linnie the red dachshund might be your perfect enthusiastic partner. Linnie is an 8-year-old purebred red dachshund with a smooth short coat, weighing 20 lbs. He was pulled from a southern West Virginia county shelter by a Little Paws foster and has been thriving ever since. This boy is fun, smart, enthusiastic, and absolutely full of life! Whether it's walks, playtime, or just hanging out with his people, Linnie radiates happiness and positivity. Environment Linnie is a high-energy guy who needs daily walks and playtime to stay happy and healthy. He's working on his potty training and making good progress. He loves walks but is still learning his leash manners, so he'll need patient adopters who can help him polish those skills. He would enjoy time in a fenced yard. He's very content being left to his own devices and can handle alone time without anxiety. He's not too noisy, making him suitable for homes with shared walls. Linnie only uses a crate for travel and doesn't particularly need one otherwise. He transported well when his foster picked him up and seems to handle car rides just fine. Pets & People Linnie is great with women and children—friendly, enthusiastic, and happy to make friends. With men, he pulls the bluster card initially, but if the men ignore his posturing, he takes a beat, realizes he needs to make friends with them, and quickly warms up. It's all show, and once he gets comfortable, he's just as loving with the guys. With other dogs, Linnie is wonderful! He moved into a multi-dog household without any incident and has even developed a sweet romance with an older Dalmatian mix girl in his foster home. His behavior around cats is unknown, but he definitely has herding instincts—he really likes to try to herd deer, which is both entertaining and something to watch for on walks! Linnie isn't a beggar, but he's definitely an opportunist when treats are being handed out—he'll snatch them at every chance! He's enthusiastic about food but not pushy about it during regular mealtimes. This boy adores toys and would absolutely love to play with squeaky toys. A home where he can enjoy all the squeakers would be a dream come true for Linnie! Health & Special Needs Linnie is a little chunky at 20 lbs and has been on Hill's Perfect Weight to help him reach a healthier size. With continued portion control and plenty of exercise, he'll be in great shape. Beyond weight management, he's a healthy, active boy with no other medical concerns. Location Linnie is available for adoption from Fairmont, WV. Please email sydneypringleyahoo with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Linnie is $325.00.

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
