Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Mason (A138528) is a 1-year-and-2-month-old Pitbull mix who weighed 71.6 pounds on intake! 04/06/26 This is Mister Mason! Mason was surrendered to the shelter because he is looking for a home that can keep him contained. He would love a fenced-in yard in his next home! Mason was known to have a little stranger when it comes to meeting new people and may initially alarm bark (mostly at men). We encourage his next owner to explore the Fear-Free Shelter Pet website and work with a certified trainer to continue building his confidence and working on his manners! He knows his basic commands and is very treat-motivated! Mason was also said to be kennel-trained and housebroken! He was known to be a chewer and would definitely get into the trash if left unsupervised. This has gotten him into trouble with the neighbors in the past. Mason was said to be a very affectionate dog and plays well with others. He historically did well with the other dogs and cats in the home. Please ensure you are making appropriate introductions to help set him up for success. If you are interested in meeting Mason, please let us know!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
