Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Adoption Fee: $375. Lucy Bio Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. Energy level: medium Potty training: fully trained Fenced yard: preferred but not required Shared walls: suitable People: all (including children) Dogs: all Overview Ready for a dog who makes love feel like the greatest gift? Lucy is a 3-4 year old pure dachshund mix, short-haired and beautiful in brown and white, who was found as a stray and brought into Little Paws care. At around 13 lbs, Lucy is compact, sweet, and quietly devoted. She always wants to be near her person—even when she's sleeping, she'll position herself close by. She loves belly rubs and will roll over to ask for them once she's comfortable. She just prefers to initiate the closeness herself, and when she does, it feels worth the wait. Environment Lucy is fully house trained and has had no accidents indoors. She is consistent with her potty routine when taken out regularly, and doesn't use pee pads. She hasn't needed a crate—she's relaxed and calm when left alone, typically just resting or sleeping. Lucy enjoys medium-energy activity—regular walks and some playtime suit her well. A yard is a nice bonus but not a requirement. She is known to attempt the stink roll on walks so should be kept on a shorter leash to avoid unwanted encounters. She's calm and quiet indoors, making her perfectly suited to apartment or townhome living. She does well in the car, resting comfortably in her bed during rides. Pets & People Lucy can be a little shy when she first meets new people—in public she may be reserved at first—but she warms up beautifully and is very affectionate once she's comfortable. She does well with children and has been good with other dogs in her foster home, coexisting with no drama. On walks, she's neutral and typically just ignores other dogs. She is food motivated and enthusiastic about treats (she may grab them quickly), and she can be interested in other dogs' bowls at mealtimes—supervised feeding is a good idea if there are other pets in the home. Location Lucy is available for adoption from Doral, FL. Please email juliejohnsonlittlepawsdr with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Lucy is $375.00.

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
