Description
Dog Breed: Cocker Spaniel. Jet was found as a stray in Virginia before coming to OBG. We estimate his age at ~11 years old and he weighs 27 pounds. Jet is a very nice boy who rode quietly in the car and walks nicely on the leash. He has been perfect at the vet for all his vetting. Jet will need daily eye drops to keep his eyes looking and feeling their best. He is keeping his crate clean at the vet and has been fine around other dogs. We don't know about cats or kids. To foster or adopt Jet, please email us at adoptmecockerspanielrescue. He is located in Alexandria, VA.

Overview:
The Cocker Spaniel, a beloved breed with roots in the United Kingdom, was originally bred as a gundog to flush out woodcock. They are instantly recognizable by their medium size, typically weighing 20-30 pounds, their luxurious, often wavy coat (which comes in a variety of colors), and their long, expressive ears that frame their gentle, eager-to-please eyes. Known for their merry and affectionate temperament, Cockers are generally good-natured, intelligent, and relatively easy to train, making them an excellent choice for families with children and even first-time dog owners. While adaptable, their moderate exercise needs can be met with daily walks and playtime, making them suitable for apartment living as long as they receive sufficient mental and physical stimulation. Prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including ear infections (due to their long ears), eye conditions like cataracts, and hip dysplasia, which highlight the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
