Description
Dog Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). Adoption Fee: $500. New to DRM, stay tuned for more info!! Meet Max! Max is a young, striking Doberman with a big heart and an even bigger love for his people. He’s incredibly friendly with everyone he meets, men, women, kids, dogs, and even cats! Max is playful, affectionate, and full of personality. He loves a good game of fetch, enjoys chewing on durable toys, and will happily entertain himself, though he’d always prefer to be by your side. He’s also quite the comedian, known for zooming around the house if he hasn’t burned off enough energy. With about an hour of active play each day plus some mental enrichment, he settles in nicely and is learning what “relax” means. He’s crate trained, sleeps quietly through the night, and does well when left alone for reasonable periods. Max is also smart and eager to learn: he already knows commands like sit, down, shake, kennel, leave it, and no. He’s currently working on leash confidence and a few household manners like “go to your spot.” Health & Behavior Notes: Max is in good health, just a little underweight right now and will fill out quickly with regular meals. He eats enthusiastically (a slow feeder is recommended!) and has no food aggression. He may have experienced some harsh handling in the past, as he can become submissive (rolling onto his back) if he thinks he’s in trouble or if his collar is grabbed, but he’s already making great progress with gentle reassurance and positive experiences. He’s a quiet boy overall and prefers to “talk” through soft whining rather than barking. Daily Life & Habits: Max is doing great with potty training, with only one accident so far. He’s learning to signal by standing near the door and thrives on a consistent routine with lots of praise. He enjoys time outside in a fenced yard and will need a secure fence in his forever home while he continues building confidence, especially with leash training. Ideal Home: Max would do best in a home that can give him structure, patience, and plenty of love. A fenced yard is highly recommended, along with continued positive training to help him grow into his most confident self. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and affectionate companion who will keep you smiling (and off your phone), Max is your guy Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. dobermanrescueminnesota/adoption-steps/ Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Overview:
The Doberman Pinscher is a sleek and powerful breed originating from Germany in the late 19th century, specifically developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection. Known for their striking, athletic build, Dobermans typically possess a short, glossy coat that comes in black, red, blue, or fawn, often with rust-colored markings. Their temperament is a fascinating blend of loyalty, intelligence, and alertness, making them exceptional guardians and devoted companions. While highly trainable and eager to please, they require early socialization and consistent training to channel their energy and protectiveness appropriately. Dobermans can thrive in active families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation, but their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Regarding health, they are predisposed to certain conditions like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Von Willebrand's Disease, and Wobbler Syndrome, so responsible breeding and veterinary care are paramount.
