Description

Dog Breed: Bichon Frise (medium coat). Adorable Max is a 2 and a half year old male Bichon Frise. Here is our story on Max and what we have learned about him in the few months we have had him. Unfortunately for Max, he came to us in the Fall when his 82 year old owner could no longer take care of him Sadly, Max came to us completely terrified from losing his home and he was not socialized very much due to his owner’s age, staying in the apartment most of the time. He was adopted by us to a wonderful family and stayed with them a few months.... we came to realize that their active lifestyle was too much for this little guy and he acted out. We have kept him off the adoption list so he could decompress and we could learn his quirks to determine how best to place him. So, what have we learned? 1- Max excelled when we put him with another small dog for a few weeks and he really came out of his shell.... so we are requiring that he goes home to a house that has another outgoing small, friendly dog. 2- Max needs a calm situation without too many people coming and going and we will not put him with a family with small children or grandchildren. A simple routine would be wonderful for this little guy. Max has come a long way and has learned "touch" for a cookie and to meet new people. Sometimes he brings his favorite toy to "touch" instead of a cookie. He loves his crate and never ever has accidents. Max will require regular grooming to keep his curls under control. Max is available to the right situation.... we will be picky where he goes so it works for all involved. You can fill out a pre-adopt form on our website at BASSshelterpets or message us here if you are interested in this sweet little guy. All our pets are spayed/neutered and UTD on shots. Max is micro-chipped. Adoption fee for Max is $380 cash or check.

Bichon Frise

A.K.A.: Tenerife dog, Tenerife, Bichon Tenerife, Canary Island Bichon, Bichon a Poil Frise, Bichon à Poil Frisé
Overview:

The Bichon Frise is a charming and vivacious small dog breed, often described as a "little white puffball." Originating in the Mediterranean, they were historically popular among European nobility. Physically, Bichons are characterized by their soft, curly, double coat of pure white fur, dark, expressive eyes, and a plumed tail carried over their back. Their temperament is generally affectionate, playful, and cheerful, making them excellent companions. They are known for being very sociable and thrive on human interaction, often getting along well with children and other pets, making them a superb choice for families and first-time dog owners. Due to their relatively small size and moderate exercise needs, they are also highly adaptable to apartment living, provided they receive regular walks and playtime. While generally robust, Bichons can be prone to certain health issues, including dental disease, patellar luxation, and allergies, highlighting the importance of responsible breeding and veterinary care.
