Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Penny is in her element now in her foster home, and her foster mom says she is the perfect houseguest for their active family. She is non-reactive to the cats and is excited to have an older "sister" dog to be her mentor and guide. Here are observations made by her foster mom: "Penny is an exuberant playmate with other dogs. She loves her people, especially kids! She can be a little wary of strange men, but with a confident human to coach her, handles it. She can be anxious bout getting into a car, but is working hard to overcome her fears. She was originally unwilling to crate as well, but has become willing to do that as well, thanks to the patience of her fosters (plus LOTS of treats and yummies!) Penny is housetrained, and loves curling up on a comfy couch with a good toy." Penny is perfecting her doggy social skills by playing with other dogs of all sizes, and she is learning to be more submissive with the dogs that ask her to back off a bit, and to invite other active dogs to play. Perfect adoption partner! PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. For questions about the pet, please email us at FOACinfogmail. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
