He is a medium energy pup who loves a good play session with his foster siblings and then happily settles in near his people or entertains himself with a bone. He would be a wonderful fit for a home ready to give a shy, soft-hearted pup the time and space to come out of his shell. Hank gets along beautifully with the dogs in his foster home and loves a good play session with his canine companions. He has not been around cats but his gentle and somewhat reserved nature suggests he would do well with a dog-savvy cat who can help set the tone. He met kids at an after-school program and patiently let everyone love on him, even giving out a few kisses. He would do best with dog-savvy kids who will give him a little time to warm up. Hank is a smart, food-motivated boy who already knows "sit" and has never been jumpy or mouthy. He is fully crate trained, eating his meals in his crate and settling in overnight without a peep. He has had virtually no accidents and is fully house trained. He is learning his leash manners and will pick them up quickly given how eager to please he is. This gentle giant has the most unique white eyelashes you have ever seen and a heart to match. Could Hank be the one for you? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
