Description
Dog Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). My name is Zelda and I am estimated to be 3-5 years of age. I was dumped in the middle of nowhere and left to fend for myself and had been starved prior to that. It took a team of people to capture me and get me to safety. I ran from all of them at first because I was so afraid. Once I was captured, I knew I had found a safe place. I calmed down and rode to the shelter happily with my rescuers. At the shelter I was given a soft place to lay down where I had warmth and food and fresh water. They took care of my health and prepared me to go to rescue for a new home. I am so grateful for all who helped me when I was in such desperate need! I have shown my gratitude in kisses and snuggles. I am ready for a forever home, one where I will get lots of love and food and water and any care that I need. I have gotten along with other dogs I have met. I have not been cat tested. I am eager to learn and to please and to love. I am a beautiful petite girl who just wants to love and be loved. If you are interested in me, please review and the adoption rules. If you decide you would like to adopt her, please fill out an application form. Note from the rescue: We are so grateful for everyone involved in getting Zelda to safety and advocating for her. Thank you so much for the difference you made in her life and in all the animals whose lives you touch. All of our dogs are current with all shots, are on heart worm preventative monthly and are neutered/spayed. All dogs are tail docked. All of the above Dobes are pure breed Dobermans unless otherwise noted. We hope you can find a place in your heart and your home for one of our rescue Dobes. Please Note: In most cases we require a fenced yard. We do not place our rescue dogs in homes with very young children (under the age of 8 years). We set these limitations, not because of aggression issues with our dogs, but because Dobermans are generally large, active dogs and can easily knock down, run over or easily trip a small child, causing a serious fall. Also, we reserve the right to refuse adoption for any reason. Our adoption area encompasses Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. Overview:
The Doberman Pinscher is a sleek and powerful breed originating from Germany in the late 19th century, specifically developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection. Known for their striking, athletic build, Dobermans typically possess a short, glossy coat that comes in black, red, blue, or fawn, often with rust-colored markings. Their temperament is a fascinating blend of loyalty, intelligence, and alertness, making them exceptional guardians and devoted companions. While highly trainable and eager to please, they require early socialization and consistent training to channel their energy and protectiveness appropriately. Dobermans can thrive in active families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation, but their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Regarding health, they are predisposed to certain conditions like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Von Willebrand's Disease, and Wobbler Syndrome, so responsible breeding and veterinary care are paramount.
