Description
Dog Breed: Pomeranian (medium coat). Meet Teddy! Little Teddy is a pomeranian male, around 6 years old. We're not sure exactly what his life was like before he came to us, but it could not have been a very happy one. Teddy arrived very fearful and shut down, not at all interested in having humans touch him. He has spent the last few months in one of our wonderful foster homes and he has made so much progress! It is lovely to see him gain confidence and become more trusting. There is still work to be done and Teddy will do best in a home with someone who is willing to earn his trust and go at his speed. From his foster mom: Teddy has made such great progress with his leash skills and behavior. I’ve been taking him to work with me to build confidence with strangers and between clients we go for short walks around Capitol Hill. Teddy’s potty habits are much better and I’m still working on him going potty outside. Everything outdoors still feels quite scary for him so going potty outside is a work in progress. He walks with more confidence on a leash inside my work building. He will do best in a home in a more quiet residential area where busy traffic and loud noises are less of an issue. I put him in a sling and have been taking him everywhere which I think has helped a lot. I notice him flinching less when I pet him and in occasion he’ll close his eyes and lean into head scritches. He comes on my bed now to sleep with the other dogs and spends much less time alone and plays with the other dogs. He’s such a sweet awkward boy and I know there’s an individual similar to me that has the perfect home for him. Teddy absolutely needs a home with a more confident adult small dog who can show him the way. He thrives in the company of other dogs and makes hilarious attempts at playing with them. A home without children is best for him. Teddy is vaccinated, neutered and chipped. His adoption fee is $450. We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. Thank you for stepping up to save a life! Overview:
The Pomeranian is a vivacious and charming toy breed, originating from the historic region of Pomerania, now part of Poland and Germany. Descended from larger Spitz-type dogs, they were miniaturized over generations, becoming beloved companions. Physically, they are recognizable by their luxurious double coat, often seen in striking shades like orange, cream, or black, and their distinctive foxy face with bright, alert eyes. Despite their small stature, Poms possess a bold and inquisitive temperament; they are intelligent, eager to please, and can be surprisingly independent. They adapt well to apartment living due to their size, though they still benefit from regular walks and mental stimulation. While generally good with older, respectful children, their delicate build makes them more suitable for families who understand their needs. Regarding health, Poms can be prone to patellar luxation, tracheal collapse, and dental issues, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care to ensure a long, happy life.
