Description
Dog Breed: Husky (medium coat). Oreo (A141885) is a 3-year-old AK Husky who weighed 45 pounds on intake! 04/30/26 This energetic gal is Oreo! Oreo was surrendered to the shelter because her owner had too many dogs to care for. They felt she would do well with a rec team and could even lead or trail lead. She is used to living outside in a dog yard and will need help adjusting to being inside if you choose to do so. A reminder that she is not housebroken and is a very active dog. Oreo was described as having an outgoing and friendly demeanor but does like to jump up on people (even children). If you have small kiddos at home, this is something to keep in mind. Oreo was said to get along well with other dogs but has no history with smaller critters. However, her surrendering owner suspected she would chase after smaller animals (like most huskies do). Oreo was known to chew, so providing her with appropriate chews is also important. She is quite the character and would love to find her new active home. If you are interested in meeting Oreo, please let us know!

Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
