Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Chance is a rescue who we found in the streets malnourished and dehydrated. The vet told us he would not have lived much longer if we hadn’t taken him in. We have had Chance for 3 years. He is loving, affectionate and eager to please. He is great with kids and my other dog. They play together all the time. However, Chance has a high prey drive when it comes to (stray) small animals - think cats and smaller dogs. We live in an area where smaller dogs are off leash all the time - despite HOA warnings and fees. Chance has had encounters with 2 cats who didn’t make it and recently a smaller dog who was off leash and charged Chance. His high prey instincts accompanied with living in this neighborhood makes for very risky situations and we don’t feel equipped to manage and mitigate all the risk when other home owners don’t do there part. We are looking to find Chance a household with someone who can devote the time that he needs and his behaviors call for. Cannot be a home with another small animal. **** Breed: Mixed breed **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2197386&flag=1

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
