Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Cattle dog mix, female Indy is a 1.5 year old, 30lb Australian Cattle Dog. Miss Indy here has a super power - she’s been the surrogate mama to a bottle feeding baby goat. Anytime her foster wonders where she might be, she checks the goat pen and sure enough there’s Indy snuggling with the kid. Indy is a real deal heeler looking for a breed-savvy, no nonsense leader. She is a Velcro girl by nature and very obedient with firm, clear communication and boundaries. She’s learning and we’re guessing that prior to rescue she didn’t have much attention, direction, or time spent inside a house. She will require a little time and training getting her up to speed, but she’s proving to be a quick study. Indy is dog social but she’d also be perfectly happy as an only dog and the center of someone’s universe OR with another dominant dog that won’t be afraid to correct some of her shenanigans. You see, when dogs start playing or the canine energy begins to build, Indy thinks she’s the referee - fun police. If you know, you know. If a cat runs, Indy will chase. She would be okay with a dog savvy cat that stands its ground and a human that can call her off and redirect inappropriate interactions. No cats, no problem this would be a non-issue and probably ideal for successful placement. She’ll help round up the adult goats and snuggle with their babies. Guessing she’d be okay around other livestock as well. Indy is microchipped, spayed, and UTD on vaccines. Indy is in Reedley, CA (near Fresno) More photos and updates: .facebook/.cchdrescue/ search in posts and photo albums. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
