Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Tiana arrived in our care along with two sisters and a brother. Each one has a unique personality, and we are enjoying getting to know them We have no clue what her breed mix may be, as all the pups look very different. Their ears were cropped when they arrived, and we know that they were found as strays running loose in the neighborhood, so they greatly appreciate the love and attention they have been getting from our volunteers. Tiana is the lover, seeking out attention and happy to have people fawn over her and offer her goodies. Her coat is sleek now, and she has a great outlook on life, now that she has been spayed, has learned to walk on leash, and is current with her vaccine schedule. At under one year, she has such great potential to be a fun companion! She does super-well with other dogs, but isn't obsessed with them, and is happy to have time alone with her humans, too. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
