Description
Dog Breed: Golden Retriever / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Ozzie! Ozzie is a 3-year-old Golden Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix who came to us as an owner surrender on May 21, 2026. Since arriving at the shelter, Ozzie has blossomed into a friendly, gentle companion who enjoys exploring, sniffing around the yard, and soaking up attention from the people he trusts. He has a medium energy level and walks well on leash, making him a wonderful partner for leisurely walks and outdoor adventures. He also knows how to sit, lay down, and give howdy. Ozzie has made tremendous progress during his time with us and continues to gain confidence every day. While he has not been formally dog tested at the shelter, he has shown no reactivity when passing dogs in their kennels. As always, we recommend a meet and greet with any potential canine housemates to ensure a good match. Ozzie is neutered, vaccinated, and ready to start the next chapter of his life with a family of his own. Interested in meeting Ozzie? Visit the shelter or contact us for more information!

Breed overview
Overview:
The Australian Retriever, a delightful hybrid of the Australian Shepherd and Golden Retriever, is a relatively new designer breed gaining popularity for its winning combination of traits. Originating in the United States, this intelligent and eager-to-please dog typically sports a medium-length, often wavy or feathered coat in a variety of colors, including merle, black, and various shades of gold or red. Physically, they are well-proportioned, often inheriting the Golden's friendly expression with the Aussie's alert eyes. Temperament-wise, they are renowned for being loyal, affectionate, and highly trainable, making them excellent companions for active families. While their energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them better suited for houses with yards rather than small apartments, their adaptability and gentle nature usually make them wonderful with children and other pets. Potential health considerations can include those common to their parent breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, and certain eye conditions, highlighting the importance of responsible breeding practices.
