He’s a mid-energy pup who enjoys both exploring the world and relaxing by your side. Scruffy adapts well to new routines and will thrive in most any setting. Scruffy is great with other dogs and loves having canine friends around. He plays with the dogs who want to play and respects the space of dogs who don’t. Scruffy enjoys meeting new people and loves to ask them to pet him. He’s been very sweet with all of the kids he’s met, so he would enjoy being a family pet with built-in playmates. While Scruffy hasn’t met cats yet, he would likely do well with them and respect their boundaries. Scruffy is crated occasionally during the day and consistently overnight and settles right in. He has been doing wonderfully with his house training when kept on a consistent schedule. Scruffy has been working hard on his leash skills, and he’s excited to continue to perfect his leash manners and earn the praise of his family. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
