Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. Energy level: low Potty training: yes with a routine schedule Fenced yard: not needed, would be a great addition Shared walls: likes to alert bark People: all Dogs: his size only Overview Looking for a mellow, easygoing companion with a little dachshund sass? Hooper is a 13-year-old smooth red miniature dachshund weighing 11 lbs, and he is exactly the kind of dog who makes a house feel like home. Hooper came to Little Paws following a divorce and is ready for the next chapter. He's funny and quirky in that distinctly dachshund way, utterly easygoing at his core, and more than ready to find a quiet, loving place to settle in. He has an emotion support friend in his best buddy Hannah, so it's best they be adopted together. Hannah is 9 years old. Environment Hooper is a low-key, contented soul. He loves his walks and prefers having a fenced yard to explore at his own pace, but does not need one. He is most content with his buddy Hannah around. They enjoy sharing a bed to cuddle, and then go into their respective crates for bed time. He is chatty, especially when greeting people, so a home without shared walls is likely the best fit. He travels quietly in the car with no radius restrictions. Pets & People Hooper is great with everyone: friendly with strangers once the initial greeting announcement has been made, relaxed and easy with all other dogs his size. Hooper should not go to a home with large dogs (40lbs+). He is a good eater and loves treats. He needs to be adopted with foster-mate Hannah, as she is his best support! He's a senior dog in the best sense: settled, good-natured, and ready to be someone's loyal companion for whatever comes next. Location Hooper is available for adoption from Boston, MA. He is currently being fostered alongside Hannah, a nine-year-old female dachshund, and the two get along well and will snuggle together. Please email fosternorthlittlepawsdr with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Hooper and Hannah is $575.

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
