He’s a mid-energy boy who likes to run and play but will also settle in to chew on a toy or nap by himself. River loves to be close to people, especially if they rub his incredibly soft ears. He enjoys cuddling up next to anyone who will have him. He’s done wonderfully with other dogs, playing with them respectfully. He is typically submissive with dogs who play rough. River has met some older dog-savvy kids who let him come to them, and he did well with them, too. River is fully house trained when let out on a schedule. He is very good in his crate during the day and overnight. River has been great on leash, walking with a pack like a pro. River is the sweetest boy who can’t wait to shower his new family with love, could it be you? Please Note: All dogs are posted on our website until they are officially adopted. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
