Dog Breed: Maltese / Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed. Meet Tammy! She is around 1 year old and is a Maltipoo. She came to us with her brother Timmy and the Pizza puppies when her elderly owner could no longer care for her dogs. Tammy is a precious little lap girl working on socialization, leash training, and housetraining in her current foster home. She is fostered with several dogs and does well with them and sleeps quietly in her crate all night. The Maltipoo, a delightful crossbreed, emerges from the charming combination of a Maltese and a Miniature Poodle, offering a compact and affectionate companion. Originating in the United States, this "designer dog" was selectively bred for its desirable traits, particularly its low-shedding coat and amiable disposition. Physically, Maltipoos typically weigh between 5-20 pounds, sporting a soft, wavy to curly coat that comes in various colors, most commonly white, cream, or apricot. Their temperament is a major draw: they are known for being intelligent, playful, and incredibly loving, often forming strong bonds with their families. This makes them highly suitable for both families with children and apartment living, provided they receive adequate exercise and mental stimulation. While generally healthy, potential health considerations can include patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy, and white shaker syndrome, inherited from their parent breeds. With proper care and attention, a Maltipoo can be a joyful and long-lived member of any household.
