Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky / Alaskan Malamute / Mixed (short coat). Belle (A142565) is a 3-year-old Siberian Husky who weighed 64.1 pounds on intake! 06/26/26 This pretty lady is Belle! Belle was surrendered to the shelter via the overnight drop-off cages with incomplete owner surrender paperwork and in need of urgent vet care. A reminder that is not appropriate to be placing injured/sick animals in the drop-off cages as they are not monitored. It is also very important to be filling out paperwork completely if you are using the drop-off cages. Belle was sent out to the vet for urgent vet care for a prolapsed vagina. She will need to come back to the shelter for suture removal on 7/10/26, and she will need to keep her e-collar (cone of shame) on constantly until that date. We unfortunately do not have any behavioral information on Belle in a home setting. The only information written she was `bipolar` but we have not seen anything at the shelter of concern. Belle has gone potty outside consistently, but we have found that she prefers to do her business in a fenced area, not on a lead. We do not know if she has experience with children or other animals. It is important that appropriate introductions are being made. There are some great resources on Fear Free Happy Pets website on how to do introductions. If you are interested in meeting Belle, please let us know!

Breed overview
Overview:
The Alusky, a captivating hybrid of the Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky, originated from the desire to blend the best traits of these powerful Arctic breeds. Physically, they are medium to large dogs, boasting a thick double coat that comes in a variety of colors and often features the striking blue or bi-colored eyes inherited from the Husky, alongside the sturdy build of the Malamute. Temperamentally, Aluskys are known for being intelligent, energetic, and loyal. They thrive on human companionship and require significant exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While generally good with families, their high energy levels and strong prey drive mean they are less suited for apartment living and benefit from a secure yard. Potential owners should be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye conditions, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups essential for a healthy companion.
