Description
Dog Breed: French Bulldog (medium coat). Meet Oly, the six year old French Bulldog! With a silly crooked smile and snorty sounding breathing â Oly has a bit of charm that will likely steal a personâs heart. He came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after his previous guardian moved and was unable to find pet friendly housing. He has a history of living with three other small breed dogs and, with management and a slow intro, coexists. He gets overwhelmed with big play sessions as well as large breed dogs. He also has experience living with a 10 year old child and did well. When left alone, Oly catches up on his beauty rest. Oly briefly met a cat and was curious but the feline was scared so the meet ân greet was cut short. A home with a dog-savvy cat may be a fit paired with a slow, thoughtful introduction. Oly does have a tendency to want to be where the people are and is eager to dash past doors to get to them. Adopters should be mindful of this in their set up of the new home to prevent him door dashing out of the house. Having a baby gate or x-pen by the front door will provide an environmental management to keep Oly safe. Additionally, simply making sure Oly is secured by a leash before any doors open is recommended. Typical to the French Bulldog breed â Oly will need an adopter who can commit to the likelihood of above average medical care in the day to day. French Bulldogs are prone to skin and ear infections, breathing conditions due to their conformation (amplified by stresses), as well as being prone to back problems. Oly is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Overview:
The French Bulldog, affectionately known as a "Frenchie," is a charming and compact companion breed originating from England, later popularized in France during the 19th century. Known for their distinctive "bat ears" and sturdy, muscular build, they possess a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors and patterns. Despite their somewhat serious expression, Frenchies boast an incredibly affectionate and playful temperament, making them excellent companions for individuals and families alike. Their relatively low exercise requirements and adaptability make them particularly well-suited for apartment living. However, prospective owners should be aware of their susceptibility to certain health considerations, including breathing difficulties due to their brachycephalic (short-nosed) structure, as well as spinal issues and skin allergies. With proper care and attention, a French Bulldog can bring years of joy and loving companionship.
