Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. Meet Barty – A Gentle Giant Looking for His Forever Family Location: Port Lavaca, TX DOB: 12/6/19 Barty is a loving senior Great Dane with a heart as big as he is. Found as a stray, his past is a mystery, but one thing is certain—this handsome, 140-pound gentle giant is incredibly sweet and ready to spend his golden years surrounded by love. Barty is the definition of a "Velcro Dane." His favorite place is wherever his people are, and he'll happily follow you from room to room, always hoping for hugs, pets, and companionship. He gives the best hugs—with his enormous head—and loves nothing more than curling up nearby for a nap after a short walk. This striking fawnequin boy turns heads everywhere he goes with his beautiful mismatched eyes—one chocolate brown and one icy blue. Despite his impressive size, he's a calm, low-energy companion whose zoomie days are behind him. He enjoys leisurely walks, especially when the weather is cool, but he's perfectly content to relax for the rest of the day afterward. Barty is a wonderful house guest. He's fully housebroken, crate trained, uses a dog door, rides quietly in the car, and has excellent house manners. He's not destructive and is surprisingly gentle with stuffed toys—his favorite is a hedgehog plush that he proudly brings to his foster family when they get home. Just don't leave snacks within reach, because this tall boy knows exactly where the goodies are! Barty currently lives happily with several medium and large dogs and has fit right into the pack. He especially enjoys having canine companions and would likely love a home with another friendly medium- or large-sized dog to keep him company. The only time he gets upset is when he's left home completely alone without another dog. Because of his strong prey drive, Barty must have a home with no cats. He becomes very fixated on them and will attempt to chase them whenever possible. His foster family is also unsure how he would do with small dogs, so a home with medium to large canine companions is recommended. Although he hasn't spent much time around children, Barty has been gentle with the people he's met. He tends to take his cues from the other dogs when meeting new people and has done well during veterinary visits. He can be startled by unusual things, like someone wearing a hat, so he appreciates patient introductions and a calm environment. As a senior gentleman, Barty is being treated for ear infections that are improving nicely. Like many older dogs, he has a few lumps that his veterinarian attributes to age. He is heartworm negative, and due to his senior status, his veterinarian recommends that he not be neutered. Because he doesn't jump well, he may also need a little help getting into taller vehicles. Barty's dream home is one filled with love, affection, and plenty of together time. He'd love a family who enjoys short walks, quiet evenings, and having a giant shadow following them around the house. Add another large dog for naps, a cozy bed (even if he chooses one that's much too small), and lots of hugs, and you'll have one very happy Dane. If you're looking for a calm, affectionate, incredibly handsome companion who will repay your kindness with endless loyalty and love, Barty is waiting to meet you. =============================================================================== To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
