Description
Dog Breed: Cane Corso Mastiff (medium coat). Meet Daphne! Daphne is a beautiful 2-year-old Cane Corso with a gentle heart and a sweet, shy personality. While she may be a little reserved when meeting new people, with patience, kindness, and time, Daphne begins to show her loving and loyal nature. Daphne is looking for an experienced dog owner who understands large-breed dogs and is committed to helping her build confidence at her own pace. She'll thrive in a calm home with someone willing to invest the time to earn her trust and celebrate the small victories along the way. Watching Daphne come out of her shell will be incredibly rewarding for the right person. Daphne recently underwent surgery and is currently recovering well. She has some healing incisions that will continue to improve with time. We'd be happy to discuss her procedure, recovery, and any ongoing care in more detail when you give us a call. To book a meet-and-greet, please contact the North Shelter at 416-338-8723. We are open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
