Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Bojangles is loving his foster time, where he is being fed many small portions during the day to help him recover from severe emaciation. When dogs have been starved, the first step is to offer tiny meals over a long period of time, so their guts can normalize. Although Bo is not yet ready for adoption, we hope to alert citizens to the fact that there may be pets near you that need intervention, and to ask that you be that person who picks up the phone to make a call. That is all you need to do to get things started, and to perhaps save a life. Bo should recover, but it will be a slow process. He is fine with cats, other dogs, and loves humans, despite his adversity. Thanks to his foster mom for taking him in! All adoptions begin with an application, found under the Adoption Application heading on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption. We reserve the right to deny adoptions.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
