Dog Breed: German Wirehaired Pointer (short coat). Echo (A102387) is a 12-year-old German Wirehaired Pointer who weighed 60.6 pounds on intake! 07/11/26 Mister Echo is back at the shelter after slicing himself open somehow while running at large. No one came forward to claim Echo, so now he is looking for a foster to adopt situation! Echo's wound to his side has been well treated by our shelter veterinarian and will need continued care moving forward. If you are interested in helping Echo on his road to recovery into his golden years, give the shelter a call and ask about a foster application! 07/01/25 This happy active boy is Echo! Echo arrived at the shelter as a stray after joining a citizen and his pup for a run. Even though he is 11 years old he says he still got it! Echo is an active boy looking for a home that can keep him both mentally and physically stimulated to keep him happy! Echo has had accidents in his kennel so he may need some reminders on potty training as he settles into his new routine. He also seems to know his basic commands but may enjoy taking a basic obedience class to sharpen up his manners! Echo arrived at the shelter with sensitive ears, so potential adopters should be prepared to discuss this further with their own veterinarian. He also appears to be sensitive to sedation meds, and his history should be discussed further with your vet prior to any procedure requiring anesthesia. Since he came in as a stray, we do not know his experience level with children or other animals. Please ensure you are making appropriate introductions. Overview:
The German Wirehaired Pointer is a versatile and robust hunting dog originating in Germany during the late 19th century. Developed for its all-around capabilities in the field, this breed possesses a distinctive wirery, weather-resistant coat that protects it from harsh conditions and provides excellent camouflage. Physically, they are medium to large-sized dogs with a strong, athletic build, typically weighing between 50-70 pounds. Their alert and intelligent expression is often framed by a moderate beard and bushy eyebrows. Temperamentally, Wirehairs are known for their loyal, eager-to-please, and energetic nature. They form strong bonds with their families and are generally good with children, making them excellent family companions for active households. However, their high energy levels and strong prey drive mean they are not ideally suited for apartment living unless given significant daily exercise and mental stimulation. While generally a healthy breed with a lifespan of 12-14 years, they can be predisposed to conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain eye conditions. Regular grooming is essential to maintain their coat and prevent matting.
