Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). If you want a dog who can keep herself entertained, Destiny is your girl! Destiny has mastered the art of throwing her own toy and then chasing after it. She loves when a human tosses it for her, but she's perfectly happy entertaining herself too! Destiny has been at the shelter since late June, and we honestly can't understand why she's still here. The only thing we can think of is her coat color. Black dogs, especially black Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes, are often overlooked in shelters due to `Black Dog Syndrome` and negative breed stereotypes. But Destiny is so much more than the color of her coat or what breed you think she might be. She's a playful, fun-loving girl who deserves a chance! Destiny is heartworm negative, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations. She's ready for her forever home! Please share Destiny's post. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
