Description
Dog Breed: Anatolian Shepherd (medium coat). Not every dog walks into a shelter ready to show the world who they are. Some, like this beautiful young Anatolian Shepherd, need a little time to believe the world is safe. On the petite side for her breed, she's all gentle heart and quiet hope. The shelter has been overwhelming for her, but every day she takes another small, brave step forward. She's learning to trust the kind volunteers who spend time with her and is making progress walking on leash. It's impossible not to cheer for every victory she earns. The quickest way to see her true personality? Introduce her to another dog. Around canine friends, her worries begin to melt away and her confidence starts to shine. A friendly, social mentor dog in her future home would be the perfect guide as she learns what it means to simply be a happy dog. She isn't looking for a family that expects perfection on day one. She's looking for people who understand that trust is earned, confidence is built one moment at a time, and the most meaningful relationships are often the ones that take a little patience. If you have a calm home, a gentle heart, and the willingness to let this sweet girl blossom at her own pace, you'll discover something truly special. Watching a shy dog realize she's finally safe is one of life's greatest rewards—and she's ready to begin that journey with you. This sweet shy girl has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in her new home. She's also sharing her shelter suite with a friend she met at the shelter. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out her playgroup video here: To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet and greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. We are located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. I look forward to getting to know you!

Overview:
The Anatolian Shepherd, an ancient and noble breed, hails from the rugged plains of Anatolia (modern-day Turkey), where they served as formidable guardians of livestock for thousands of years. These impressive dogs are renowned for their substantial size, typically weighing between 80-150 pounds and standing 27-29 inches tall, boasting a dense double coat that can range in color but is often fawn with a black mask. Their independent and intelligent nature makes them exceptional working dogs, displaying a strong protective instinct balanced with a calm demeanor. While fiercely loyal to their families, their guardian roots mean they are not ideal for apartment living; they thrive in homes with ample space and a job to do, making them unsuitable for inexperienced owners. With proper socialization and training, they can be wonderful companions, though their watchful nature means they often bond more closely with one or two family members. Generally a robust breed, potential health concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, and bloat.
