Dog Breed: Schnauzer. Available for Adoption: Meet Winston! Welcome, Winston! This gentle soul was brought to us by a kind-hearted Good Samaritan who was concerned about his condition and was able to convince his owner to surrender him. Winston's coat was severely matted, dirty, very thin with ribs exposed. Thankfully the Good Samaritan did a mercy grooming on him. It was clear he had been neglected for quite some time. He was so sensitive to touch that even gentle affection and kisses made him flinch. With patience, love, and proper care, Winston has blossomed into the happy, trusting dog he was always meant to be. We can't say enough wonderful things about this sweet boy. Winston is playful, affectionate, well-mannered, obedient, easygoing, and truly a diamond in the rough. He greets each day with a happy spirit and is ready to leave his past behind for a future filled with love. Winston is currently working on his basic commands. He is crate trained and has been doing very well with potty training, with only a few accidents when he first arrived. He is wonderful with kids and should do well with cats given a slow, proper introduction. Winston has overcome so much and is now ready to find the forever family he has always deserved. He has had 2 vet visits, is neutered, Microchipped, UTD on all vaccinations, had a 4 DX test (testing for Lyme disease and two types of tick-borne illnesses), flea/tick/heartworm prevention (Nexgard Plus), 2 dewormings, and a 1 fecal test. Adopters will receive all original paperwork, a 14-day health guarantee, a collar, harness, leash, seatbelt lock, and a week's worth of food. We operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are by appointment only. We are located in Mesa near Gilbert/Brown & offer flexible hours for meet-and-greet appointments. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
