Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Oakley's mom Ginger ended up at the San Bernardino Shelter VERY pregnant, scared and depressed. Even though she was "full term," they set her to be spayed and her puppies aborted, but we were able to rescue her just before this happened. A week later, she gave birth to 6 healthy and adorable puppies. These puppies are social and loving and come from a home filled with love. At 8 weeks of age, they will have had their initial dewormings, their first vaccination and microchip. Puppies are adopted out with a 'foster to adopt' contract and when they are deemed old enough to be spayed or neutered by a GreenDog Foundation Vet, the contract is complete and the adoption is finalized. The adoption fee is $600 which covers their series of vaccinations including Rabies, microchipping and spaying or neutering. All of these services must be provided by one of GreenDog Foundation's Vets. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
