Description
Dog Breed: Queensland Heeler (medium coat). Meet Pickles, the 7 year old male herding breed mix. Pickles came to the Shelter after the guardian passed away and the other family members were unable to continue caring for him. He has previously lived in a home with other dogs and has been around children ages 6 and 14 years old. Pickles would thrive in a home free of cats as he does enjoy chasing them. He was an outdoor dog primarily in his most recent home so he may need some time and patience transitioning to indoor living. He lives stuffie style toys and knows a lot of cues such as âsitâ, âshakeâ and âgo get your toyâ. Pickles is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them

This intelligent and energetic canine typically boasts a medium build, with a strong, athletic frame well-suited for an active lifestyle. Their coat can vary widely in color and pattern, often displaying the striking merle or mottled markings of their parent breeds. Temperamentally, Texas Heelers are known for their loyalty, eagerness to please, and high energy levels, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation. Due to their herding instincts and need for space, they are generally not suitable for apartment living and thrive in homes with yards. While generally robust, they can inherit health concerns common to their parent breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, and certain eye conditions. Prospective owners should be prepared for a dedicated and engaging canine partner.
