Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix female puppy Miss Mina is in the CCHDR house…finally! This 6 month old cattle dog / shepherd mix has grown up in rescue. She is desperately looking for a place to call home. Ideally, she’d land in a training-forward, breed savvy home to make up for lost time. She’s a brilliant mind but has never had the training, structure, or routine a dog her age who has lived in a home would have received by now. Mina is people friendly and dog social. She is cat curious but hasn’t attempted to chase the resident feline. She’s bunked up with a boss cat who holds his ground, he hissed, she backed away. This girl is toy driven to the max and has a strong worth ethic. She’d thrive in an active, adventurous, sport dog home. At 6 months of age Mina’s brain is eager and ready to start learning. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
